The latest findings by the Education Policy Institute (EPI) has confirmed what many schools already know; there is a crisis on school funding and with pupil numbers on the increase, the pressure is only set to increase (2015/16 school year saw an increase of over 300,000 on pupil numbers)

The report summarised that:

• 60% of maintained secondary schools are spending more than they receive
• Since 2014, the number of Local Authority led special schools in deficit had doubled from 5% to 10%.

This combined with analysis from the National Education Union (NEU) that reports that despite spiralling costs, funding for 25% of primary schools and 17% of secondary schools has not increased and in some cases has even been reduced.
