The Problem

Orchid Transport is a logistics company established in 1988 with a Head Office trading out of Honiley in Warwickshire. The business specialises in full load container haulage from Southampton and Felixstowe to the Midlands, and are developing services from London Gateway and Tilbury in conjunction with its Felixstowe operation. In addition to port transport services, the company has a fleet of localised vehicles to support customers who use the rail network into the West Midlands and Leeds/Wakefield rail centres.

The business has been successful with significant growth since its inception in 1988. As with any business enjoying growth, there are challenges to be faced which includes IT and Telecoms requirements. For Orchid Transport the particular challenges it faced was a phone line struggling to cope with extended capacity and the overall reliability of the phone system.

In 2002 HBT was approached to help make improvements.

The Solution

Chris Wood met with the team at Orchid Transport to find out more about the business and how it operated and to discuss the issues they were experiencing with the current phone system. He was then able to design a tailor-made telecoms solution to support the business into the future and improve reliability.

As a growing business, cost was also a crucial factor and this was taken into consideration by Chris when designing the phone system. HBT is an independently owned business, which means we are not tied to suppliers and our solutions are driven by our clients’ needs and not by specific products and services.

Orchid Transport has now been a client of HBT’s for 15 years and its phone system has been kept up to date with the latest technologies to help improve efficiency and streamline costs.

Recently, Orchid Transport has moved its phone system to an IP platform and is enjoying the benefits of improved functionality, including enabling multiple locations for call distribution and the flexibility of controlling calls should anything happen at Head Office. The new system is also helping the business move operations forward for improved customer experience. In addition to all the added functionality, the upgrade has been cost neutral and will result in ongoing savings of £1,200 per annum.
