UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supplies)

UPS or Uninterruptible power supplies are critical pieces of equipment for hospitals; banks, call centres and any business that feeds on mains power and needs to communicate; which, we believe applies to most companies.

An Uninterruptible Power Supply or UPS system is connected in-between the mains power supply and the equipment it needs to protect from abnormalities and interruptions or even failure in the power supply.

UPS systems are available in various (static) forms and are used for a variety of reasons; however, all UPS systems provide back-up power which is stored in a battery and utilised if the main power supply fails.

UPS Power Rating

Watts (W) or Volt Amperes (VA) are the measurements used to rate the power consumption of electrical equipment. VA or kVA (1kVA=1000VA) are the measurements commonly used by UPS manufacturers to illustrate output ratings. This power rating is extremely important as it establishes the greatest load that can be continuously supported by a specific UPS when there is a power failure.

UPS systems are intended to feed much more than desktop units and some are capable of supplying more than single point power provision.
